Fight with the New Top Killer–Air Pollution

Have you noticed that air pollution merges as a top killer globally? This “silent killer” is not as dramatic or visible as car crashes, murders, terrorist attacks or natural disasters, but it is nevertheless even more dangerous as it contaminates vital organs, causing serious diseases and deaths to many millions of people. Recent research shows that air pollution is the number one environmental cause of human deaths and kills more people annually worldwide than road accidents, violence, fires and wars combined.

Young children are among the most vulnerable to the effects of air pollution.  A new UNICEF study released on 31 October 2016 found  air pollution is a major contributing factor in the deaths of around 600,000 children under five every year, and that around 2 billion children live in areas where outdoor air pollution exceeded the WHO air quality guidelines.

Therefore, drastically reducing air pollution should now be treated as a top priority.

The sources of air pollutant mainly include vehicle emissions, combustion of fossil fuels, domestic fuel, natural dust, and poisonous emissions from industrial activities, etc. all of which add to particulate matter. When this polluted air is breathed it leads to respiratory issues and in some cases causes autism, dementia, and schizophrenia. The combination of all this adds to the already high health and economic costs of a nation.

Here I present some day to day strategies that should be utilized for improving air quality.

Solutions

  1. Keep your city green

Making way for green spaces around the city may not be the only solution for air pollution reduction, but plantation works in improving air quality. The plants also counteract the urban heat island effect, absorb radiation, and filter the particulate matter which is most needed to keep the air clean, fresh, and cool.

  1. Focus on reduced driving

The focus should be laid on vanpool, carpool, usage of public transport, telecommunicating, and opting for walking mode for short distances which will bring a reduction in carbon footprint.

  1. Build a Green Living Area

It’s a good way to keep away from air pollution by air purifier. .It can effectively, fast filter all kinds of floating smoke and dust in air, and easily solve the housing environmental pollution. Through the air purifier, bring the fresh air to your family and build a green living area at your home ,car and office.
